BAPS

Beyond AP Statistics Club

We run surveys about questions that matter to our school and community.

01 — What we do

Real questions, answered by the people they affect.

Our goal is useful, reliable information for students, educators, and local newspapers.

  1. 01

    Start with a real question

Something people at Westlake actually wonder about. Sometimes the community brings one to us.

  2. 02

    Ask the people it’s about

We write the survey and get it to everyone it affects, not just the loudest voices.

  3. 03

    Share what the numbers say

Clear results for students, teachers, and The Featherduster, including what the data can’t tell you.

02 — Our work

A past project

Test prep, straight from students

Education departments in our community came to us.

What they wanted to know
How students prepare for tests, and which online practice resources they use.
Why they came to us
They wanted to hear directly from students.

What we want to ask next

We want our surveys to answer questions people here actually have.

Community questions

Ask community members what they want to know, and build a survey around it.

Newspapers

We already partner with The Featherduster, and want to find more stories where a survey could help.

03 — Why it matters

For our school

Hearing from students shows educators what’s working and what students still need.

For our community

Surveys give a voice to the people an issue affects.

For our members

Real practice with statistics and programming, on real questions instead of textbook problems.

04 — What we've learned

“Incentives matter most for getting people to take part.”

That’s what Mrs. Chong has found running BAPS. When more people take part, not just the ones with strong opinions, results have less bias and more fairly represent everyone.

MC

Club sponsor

Our sponsor, Mrs. Chong, is in her twentieth year of teaching and her fifteenth at Westlake.

05 — Support BAPS

Help more voices surface.

Two ways local organizations can help. Either one means a lot to us.

1

Help fund incentives

Any amount helps. Funding only pays for small thank-you incentives for people who take our surveys.

2

Share survey expertise

Feedback on how we design and run our surveys, from people who do it professionally.

  • Everyone gets the same thank-you, no matter how they answer.
  • Support never changes the questions we ask or the results we share.

With permission, we recognize supporters on our club shirts, our surveys, and this website.
